Listen to Understand: A Listening Session on Medical Discrimination
This group listening session aims to create a safe and supportive space where participants can learn about the realities of racism and discrimination in healthcare settings through stories, personal accounts, and accessible legal explanations. By fostering shared listening and discussion after each segment, the activity seeks to raise public awareness of the various forms that medical discrimination can take, to promote a better understanding of its impacts on the physical, mental, and emotional health of those affected, and to encourage collective reflection on ways to recognize, prevent, and report these situations. The event will address racism and discrimination in healthcare settings, their manifestations, their consequences on the health and well-being of those affected, as well as patients’ rights and the resources available to recognize, prevent, and report these situations. Participants are welcomed into a warm and inviting space for a group listening session featuring several episodes of the podcast. The session begins with a brief presentation, followed by the listening session and a lively discussion designed to foster dialogue, reflection, and the sharing of experiences.
Legal and community resources are presented to conclude the session.
